Dispatch Amethyst

About this project

Amethyst, a project by Dispatch Grid Services, is the largest stand-alone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Netherlands. Located in the port area of Dordrecht, South Holland, this groundbreaking 45 MW / 90 MWh utility-scale battery storage system spans a 6,000 m² site. On average, it will store enough energy to supply electricity to 21,500 households per day. The system not only stabilises the electricity grid but also optimises the use of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Construction is currently underway, with completion expected in early 2026.

This BESS plays a crucial role in balancing supply and demand in the electricity grid. By storing excess energy generated by renewables and releasing it during peak demand or low production, the system contributes to a reliable and stable energy supply. Eneco is responsible for optimising the battery’s operations across various power markets, while Equans Netherlands oversees the engineering and construction.

The role of Ventolines
Ventolines plays a key role in the successful delivery of the Amethyst project. Our involvement began before financial close, where we helped define the technical requirements and supported contract negotiations. Following financial close, a dedicated Ventolines team joined the project delivery team to oversee its progress and ensure it meets the highest standards.

Our contributions include:

• Technical support contracting phase
• Drafting the technical requirements for the Balance of Plant (BoP), covering both civil works (BoP-C) and electrical systems (BoP-E)
• Integrating the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) into the overall project requirements to ensure seamless operation
• Establishing clear maintenance requirements for the battery and electrical systems to guarantee long-term reliability
• Providing technical support during tender clarifications and negotiations
• Owner’s Engineer and site Supervision
• Conducting a full technical review of the design to ensure it meets project goals and technical standards
• Setting up clear processes for execution of the project
• Monitoring quality, safety, and risks during construction to ensure the project progresses smoothly and safely
• Acting as the on-site representative to supervise construction activities and ensure compliance with the design
• Overseeing the commissioning phase, where the system is thoroughly tested before being handed over for operation

By combining technical expertise with clear oversight and guidance, Ventolines ensures the project is delivered efficiently, safely, and to a high standard, paving the way for reliable and sustainable energy storage in the Netherlands.
