About this project
Wind farm Fryslân will consist of 89 wind turbines in the Frisian part of the IJsselmeer, near Breezanddijk. With 383 MW, this is the world’s largest wind farm in an inland waterway, with 89 turbines under construction. By 2020, the wind farm is expected to generate renewable energy comparable to the energy consumption of 340,000 households.
The initiators have offered the province large-scale participation in the wind farm. Participation by the province is the most direct way for the province and its inhabitants to benefit from the wind farm. Direct financial participation by the inhabitants of Friesland is another serious option.
The municipality of Sudwest-Fryslân and Windpark Fryslân have concluded an agreement on the establishment of an environmental fund. This fund, into which approximately 500,000 euros will be paid annually by Windpark Fryslân, will play a stimulating role in the development of the area around the wind farm off the IJsselmeer coast.
Windpark Fryslân has outsourced the overall project management during the development, contracting and financing phase to Ventolines. Ventolines also has a leading role in the actual realization of the wind farm, the construction phase.
